Q....Are there a lot of Japanese students in Bournemouth?
A....Yes, quite a few. However, there is a greater number of students from
other countries all over the world. Our impression of Japanese students
(and Rie confirms this) is that when two Japanese students meet in the
street, they ignore each other and hardly ever say hello. Japanese students
tend not to congregate together too much here in Bournemouth, unlike some
other nationalities, so it's not too much of a problem.
Q.....What countries do students come from?
A....You name it! just about every country in the world. One of the nice
things about Bournemouth is seeing people from all over the world on the
streets and in the pubs, clubs and cafes. Everybody gets along very well.
Q.....What is Bournemouth like in the summer?
A.....Excellent! Outstanding! The weather is hot and sunny (usually) with
low humidity. There are lots of holiday-makers and tourists, as well as
students from almost every country. You'll see people walking in the streets
and the shops wearing only swimming costumes.
Bournemouth is a holiday town in summer, one of Britain's finest and most beautiful resorts. There is extensive night life, a beautiful, clean, safe 9-kilometre beach, flower gardens, parks, student discos (lots), student bars and cafes (lots), there are at least three casinos. There is also beautiful countryside a short distance outside Bournemouth. There is something for everyone.
Q.....What is Bournemouth like?
A.....Bournemouth is a major financial centre, a University town and a
major center for English as a foreign language, as well as being one of
Britain's finest resorts. Bournemouth also hosts several major conferences. There
are restaurants from almost every country (except Japan). The town has
a good shopping centre and an even better one in Poole 7 miles away. Bournemouth
used to be a place for rich people to retire to, but the easy access from
London (2 hours by coach, 1.5 hours by car or train) has meant that lots
of banks, insurance companies etc. have re-located their headquarters here.
However, Bournemouth is not the same as London. It is a safe place, very
clean and cosmopolitan all year round. It is not the big city, but a lively,
vibrant town. And don't forget, 9 kilometres of golden beaches.
If you want the countryside, the New Forest is only a short train journey
away. Everything you need is here.
Bournemouth has two faces, summer and winter. The summer is full of life
and bustle and people. The winter is more relaxed and calmer. A more tranquil
atmosphere, perfect for serious study.
